STEVEN MATRIX

Steven Matrix is a reformed hitman, but not by choice, at least not initially. One evening while dining alone in a fine dining establishment, he was shot in the head at point blank range by a beautiful female professional assassin. But the hit failed, and Steven Matrix narrowly escaped death. For a brief moment, he was sent to Hell (known as the City In-Between) and then a stranger appeared before him and offered him a second chance at life, but only if he accepted a drastic change in his life. Rather than sending people to their graves, he was now expected to save them. Messengers from beyond would be there to watch over him and help him somewhat, but not lead him by the hand. As an act of redemption, he was expected to save troubled beings on earth. His former partner in crime, Billy Hicks decided to help though he does not understand, nor does he approve, of Matrix's new and unconventional ways of "doing business."

Steven Matrix is a very private person. Like Billy, he leads two lives. To the unsuspecting public, he is an independent businessman who dabbles in investment projects, including part ownership of Silver Flex Gym. Steven has no surviving family members. The only son of a slain mob father, who was also a hitter, Steven lives alone in a lavishly furnished two-storey condo and drives a new black Corvette. Steven is single, never married. He has dated several unusual women, including Det. Marilyn Chaussen, who, in the episode FALSE WITNESS, revealed that their four year relationship was an undercover job against the mob. And then there was Andrea Hopper, a woman who framed him for the murder of her father in the episode TO ERR IS HUMAN. His business partner Liz Teel is romantically interested in Steven. She goes out of her way to spend time with him though he never seems to be able to complete a date with her before messengers from beyond call on him during the most inopportune moments.

The introverted hitman keeps his affairs private, but there are those who consider him a friend, including Liz, who tries to pry into his personal life. And in a moment of weakness, Steven revealed to her that he used to kill people for a living. But Liz was heavily sedated due to a flu virus and fell asleep during his confession.

NICK MANCUSO

Born as Nicodemo Antonio Massimo Mancuso on 29 May 1948 in Mammola, Calabria, Italy, the highly talented actor of the stage, films, and television, as well as author of a number of poetry works and his own book on his experiences as a new Canadian resident at age six, is a man we've come to know by the name of Nick Mancuso. The eldest of five, Nick attended Toronto's Bloor Street Collegiate Institute and then continued studies at the University of Toronto in psychology before transferring to the University of Guelph where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with the intent of becoming a research psychologist. But the multi-talented actor was not just a student of the behavioural sciences, he also had a keen interest in the arts and humanities, which began during his high school years. Performing in school plays, Nick pursued his interests in the dramatic arts in the early 1970s and founded his own theatre troupe in Toronto which produced plays for his Italian community. He and his troupe performed west all the way to Vancouver, British Columbia where he eventually expanded his role as performer and artistic director for one season.

Nick's pursuit of excellence in the arts drew the attention of the prestigious Stratford Festival, and in 1976 he won leading roles in such noted works as "The Merchant of Venice" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." From here, Nick made the transition into television work with early roles in ABC's DR. SCORPION followed by a two-hour pilot for the 1985 NBC series STINGRAY. This popularity of the latter role led to a one year-stint on the STINGRAY TV series in which Nick played the role of "Ray", a mysterious man who drove around in a classic 1965 Corvette and helped out people in distress and then asking for a favour in return when the "time" arose.
