While nursing a bad cold, Matrix meets up with Buzz in the City In-Between and is told that superstar hockey player Rick Beals is in trouble. Matrix poses as a sports journalist to convince Beals, who has been suffering from unexplained blackouts, not to play in the finals. One more hit, and Beals could die. Team coach Kurt Campbell is a compulsive gambler and has high stakes in Beals in the amount of $100,000 and stands to lose the championship if Beals doesn't lead the Rockets team against the finalists, the Sentinels. After killing off his accomplice, Brent Metcalfe, the team trainer who's been injecting Beals with a regular dose of "vitamins" for his concussions, coach Campbell then blackmails Beals into agreeing to play by threatening to expose him about his car crash that "killed" his date, a hooker. But Matrix and Billy find out that the hooker did not die and was a set up by Kurt against Beals.
